TRANSPONDER FAQ's

Q:       What is a transponder system?
A:
A transponder system is a very precise sports timing system that is used for scoring events and gathering  lap times.  MXDIRT has purchased 2 transponder systems for scoring and  lap times of our races in Oklahoma.  The system requires a loop to be buried in the ground below the finish line.  The loop is connected to a coax that leads back to a computer that has the timing and scoring software.  A transponder is attached to each motorcycle and when the bike passes over the loop the transponder produces a hit and a timestamp.  The timestamp is sent to the software and calculated to produce a scoring position and a lap time.

Q:       Are the tracks in Oklahoma going to use transponders?
A:
MXDIRT's goal is to get the transponders implemented into our races here in Oklahoma.  Using transponders will benefit the scoring of events as it eliminates the human element in scoring.  Transponders will do the scoring, provide the race results and provide the lap times.  All of it instantly and with incrediable accuracy.  A race event requires a track owner to pay 3 scorers and an individual to input the race results into the computer.  Using the transponders will allow a track owner or promoter to only use 2 scorers total thus reducing costs.

Q:
Reynard Raceway has a transponder system in place?
A:
Yes, MXDIRT has partnered with Reynard Raceway to place a transponder system in their facility permanently.  Reynard Raceway will use transponders for their daily practices, racing events and for the Robbie Reynard MX Schools.  Transponders will be available for rent during Open Practices to work on lap times during practices.

Q:
Are transponders required to race at Reynard Raceway?
A:       Yes.  If a participant does not have a transponder on during a racing event they cannot be scored or receive their lap times and results.

Q:       Are transponders available to rent?
A:       Yes, the cost will be $10 per day.  You must sign a rental agreement form and receive your transponder FIRST before registering to race.  A credit card  number or your actual drivers license will be needed to secure the deposit.  When the transponder and clips are returned by the end of the event the deposit (credit card number or drivers license) will be returned.

Q:       If there is more than one rider in a family, how many transponders does one family need?
A:       Transponders can be shared. Each transponder will have an ID #. We will assign the transponder ID# to each rider that will be using it. As long as the riders are not in the same class, they can be shared. Note: If sharing a transponder, there will need to be a least 1 moto between your moto's. There is not enough time to change transponders in back to back races as the 2nd race has started before the 1st race is finished.

Q:       How do the transponders attach to the bike?
A:       You attach a quick mount clip to your fork tube with zip ties, then snap the transponder into the quick mount clip & secure with the strap. Note: The transponder comes with one clip.  Another clip will be available, at no extra charge,  if there is more than one bike.

Q:       How does the transponder communicate with the scoring computer?
A:       A cable is buried across the finish line and the transponder is recognized from below. Every time you pass the finish line, no matter the number of bikes, you are recorded. This will produce immediate, accurate race results and lap times.

Q:       How do I purchase a transponder and what is included?
A:       Transponders will be available to purchase at each event.  The cost will be $210.  Because of the cost, a limited number of transponders are kept on hand at each event.  Transponders will be available to purchase through MXDIRT at www.mxdirtonline.com.  Contact MXDIRT with an email and we will get back with you ASAP.  Your personal transponder kit comes with the transponder, mounting bracket, 110v charger, 12v charger that works in your vehicle. Additional mounting brackets are $7.00.

Q:       How long do the transponders last? What is the warranty?
A:       Life expectancy is 8 – 10 years. Warranty is 3 years – full replacement for non working items – assuming they are not busted up & broken.

Q:       How long will the battery charge last?
A:       A full charge will last about 4 days. Placed in the charging cradle turns the transponder off when not in use, which extends the charge & the life of the battery.

Q:       Can I use my transponder anywhere else?
A:       Currently Reynard Raceway is the only track in Oklahoma to implement the use of transponders. MXDIRT will be attending races renting transponders for those that are interested.  There are two companies that have a transponder system and Reynard Raceway is using MYLAPS and their AMB transponders.  Transponders are widely used for Amateur events in the U.S., including the amateur nationals and Loretta Lynn's. Transponders purchased for those events will not work at Reynard Raceway as they are from the WEER transponder system.  Now that we have started a program, we expect other tracks to follow.

Q:       What if I already have purchased a transponder for the use at the Amateur Nationals?
A:       If you have already purchased a WEER transponder for the amateur nationals, with the presentation of the transponder at the time of registration, there will be a "No Charge" for the rental of the transponder for the event but a Rental Agreement will need to be signed and a credit card or driver license available for the refundable deposit.
